National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) offers a Diploma in Guidance and Counselling. The council provides academic support to the students by symbolizing the integration of three aspects of the work of NCERT, namely, Research and Development, Training, and Extension. Let's know more about the program and its entrance preparation.

 

About the Program 

NCERT has trained the in-service school teachers, educators' and untrained guidance personnel through its diploma courses for many years. Diploma in Guidance and Counseling course is accessible for both distance learning as well as face-to-face modes. 

 

The course is offered by the Department of Educational Psychology and Foundations of Education (DEPFE), New Delhi, and Regional Institutes of Education of NCERT at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysore, and Shillong. 

Duration of the Course- One year, which is divided into 3 phases.

The total number of seats in six centers, DEPFE, NCERT, New Delhi, and five RIEs at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysore, and Shillong, are 50 candidates at each center.

Admission Procedure 

Eligibility 

• Graduates with any teaching degree (in-service teacher); OR
• Non-working graduates with a minimum of 2 years of teaching or related experience; OR
• Postgraduate degree (in psychology/education/social work/child development/special education). Candidates with one year of teaching or related experience will get preference.

 

Admission Criteria

The application form for the year 2021 has been released. The candidate requires to submit the form electronically (i.e., through email) and postal mail. After the screening process, eligible candidates are called for the essay writing and interview rounds at the study center for the selection test.

Exam Pattern

The entrance for the course constitutes an essay type question, which is situational based. The exam aims to test the skill and presence of mind of the candidate. After the entrance, an interview round is held wherein the candidates' answers are further cross-questioned.

The essay question is designed to check the counseling skills of the candidate. Hence, they should be thorough with the concepts of Counseling. A practical experience in this field helps the candidate to enhance the quality of their answer.
