DUET: Admission Process, Books Recommendation, Tips and Strategies

What is DUET?

 

Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET) is a national level entrance examination. The NTA (National Testing Agency) conducts it on behalf of Delhi University. It runs the exam for admission to various UG, PG, MPhil, and Ph.D. programs. 

 

However, psychology students must give this exam if they want to pursue an MA, MPhil, or Ph.D. from Delhi University.  The mode of the examination is online. It is based on objective type questions. 

 

ADMISSION PROCEDURE  

 

PROCESS OF ADMISSION:

  • The student has to apply through an online application form.
  • After filling the form, one has to download the admit card.
  • Appear for the exam on the alloted date.
  • After the written exam, candidates who qualify for the cut off are then called for an interview.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

 
  • The interviewers are a panel of 2-3 department teachers.
  • The experience varies from student to student. Some may be asked about their preferences or the subject. For instance, if you have done the dissertation, then the questions can be based on it.
 

To be precise, one should focus on their orientation towards psychology.

 

BOOKS RECOMMENDATION FOR DUET- PSYCHOLOGY



 

For general psychology, one can refer to basic books like:

  • Class 11th and 12th NCERT psychology books
  • Psychology by Ciccarelli and White
  • Psychology: The Science of Mind and Behavior by Passer and Smith
 

Some subject-specific books are 

  • Statistics: King and Minium, A.K. Singh
  • Social psychology: Baron
  • Abnormal psychology: Butcher and Mineka

PREPARATION TIPS AND STRATEGIES FOR DUET

 

 
  • Familiarize yourself with the entrance test- pattern, syllabus, previous year question papers. To be precise, be mentally oriented.
  • You can start from MCQs and then trace back to theory to develop an objective mindset.
  • Keep revising the theory.
  • Focus smartly on the theoretical concepts as the target is to prepare for MCQs and not learning the theory.
  • Non Psychology students can first refer to the introductory books for fundamental concepts and then look for MCQs.
